12 inches is suitable for 3 months -3 years,
14 inches is suitable for 3-8 years,
16 inches is suitable 8 years plus.

To store, you can wrap it in a butter paper or a muslin cloth or even a tissue paper and put it in a Ziploc or an airtight container. Never put a moist piece of jewellery back in its place as it can cause the jewellery to tarnish. Always wipe it carefully before you put it back.
